Art Space News:
One of the best things about living and working at the Cowwarr Art Space, you never quite know what might happen next!
We have had the privilege of hosting Vernon Ah Kee and Venessa McRae while they installed the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane,Travelling Exhibition, CantChant VERNON AH KEE: Gippsland Gallery SALE - 19 Dec 2009 to 31 Jan 2010
CantChant offers an Aboriginal rendering of 'the beach', and draws on, but is in opposition to, its significance within popular culture as a site of 'Australian-ness'. Vernon Ah Kee skilfully challenges the white Australian-ness of the beach by making visible the invisibility of Aboriginal sovereignty and framing the beach as an important site for the defence and assumption of territorial sovereignty.
Exhibition Opening: Friday 18 December at 7.00pm by Vanessa McRae - Deputy Director, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane. :Image: Vernon AH KEE, CantChant (detail) 2007, colour photograph. Vernon recently represented Australia at both the Venice and Sydney Biennale.

More Art Space News: Cowwarr Cutters Cup
As you would have read in the previous eNews we were gearing up for the Cowwarr Cutters Cup our Cowwarr Community CFA fundraiser. Well we had a bumper year just over $3700 taken at the gate. A great effort from all involved, it is a huge event for a tiny community to organise. We acknowledge the continued support of; Wellington Shire, Jim’s Mowing Traralgon, Bendigo Community Bank Heyfield, Bultaco Parts Australia, ProRent Morwell, Wako Kwickform.
Under perfect conditions the friends, family and team supporters as well as the enthusiastic general public were treated to a great day of exciting racing, competitive heats and plenty of thrills and spills. The Cowwarr Footy Club ran the bar and the Cowwarr General Store provided the catering on the day. The Lions Club was out in force for the ice cream and drinks and most of the kids did marathon events on the Free Jumping Castle. The added attraction of the UTE Muster from the Lights on Convoy Inc club and the Maffra Shed Gippsland Vehicle Collection of old bikes and car’s created a new dimension to the day's event. Team Cowwarr didn't do quite as well as we hoped but we did manage a third in the heats.
Team Cowwarr Syndicate members; Cowwarr General Store, Cowwarr Art Space, Vern Grahams, Spruce Up Gardens, Ray Elliot Panels, Maffra Sheet Metal Works. Link to Clive's photo collection of the Day! Learn More »
